Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre

About Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre

Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre holds a distinction no other venue on earth can claim: it is the world's oldest continuously operating drive-in movie theater, having opened in Orefield, Pennsylvania in 1934. The four-acre, single-screen theater sits just off Route 309 in the Lehigh Valley and has been delighting moviegoers across nine decades of American cinema. Shankweiler's is one of the rare drive-ins open year-round — rain, snow, or shine — and runs double features every night during summer, with weekend programming in cooler months. Sound comes through on 90.7 FM for crystal-clear stereo audio. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for children, with children 3 and under always free. The theater's small-town feel, 300-car capacity, and historic significance make it a bucket-list destination for drive-in enthusiasts from across the country.
