Elmira Drive-In is one of the Southern Tier's most enduring entertainment traditions, having opened on April 16, 1949 in Big Flats — just west of Elmira along Route 352. Operated by Zurich Cinemas, the drive-in originally ran a single screen and later expanded to two. In April 2025, a powerful storm tore down the second screen and badly damaged the front ticket office. The owners announced no plans to rebuild Screen 2, focusing instead on restoring and reopening the original main screen. The drive-in closed for the remainder of the 2025 season and announced plans to reopen in Spring 2026 as a single-screen theater. Adult tickets are $8, children 5–11 are $3, and kids 4 and under are free. Sound is on 89.9 FM. The drive-in has been a fixture for Chemung County families for over 75 years, and the community has rallied behind the owners as they bring the theater back.
