How We Verify Listings
Drive-in details change every season: prices go up, frequencies move, theaters close or reopen. Here is how we keep our 288 listings accurate, and what to do when something is out of date.
Where the information comes from
Every listing is researched by hand. We check each theater against its own website and recent sources, such as the theater's social media posts, before a listing goes live and when we recheck it.
What we check
- Whether the theater is operating, and its season
- FM radio frequency for the movie sound
- Admission prices for adults and kids
- Gates-open and show times
- Outside food policy and whether there's a snack bar
- Payment (cash only or cards)
- Number of screens
If we can't confirm a detail, we leave it off the page rather than guess. That's why some listings show fewer details than others.
The “Verified” date
Each theater page shows a green ✓ Verified date. That's the last day we checked the listing against the theater's own sources. The older the date, the more worth it is to call ahead or check the theater's website before you drive out.
What each status means
- Open year-round
- The theater keeps showing movies through the winter.
- Seasonal
- The theater runs for part of the year, usually spring through fall. Season dates are listed when the theater has published them.
- Temporarily closed
- When we last checked, we couldn't find a current schedule. The listing stays up, flagged, so you know to call ahead.
- Low-confidence notice
- Shown when some details couldn't be confirmed recently. Call ahead before you go.
Theaters that have closed for good are removed from state pages and the map.
New theaters
Anyone can submit a drive-in. Every submission is reviewed by hand and checked against the theater's own sources before it's published. Listings are free.
Sponsored placements and ads
Theaters can pay for a featured placement, which is always labeled “Sponsored.” Paying doesn't change a theater's details, status or verified date. The site also shows Google ads and links to Amazon for gear; as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Spot something wrong?
Every theater page has a “Suggest an edit” link, or you can contact us. A link to the theater's own post or website helps us confirm the change quickly.
